Hospital Selects Xirrus to Provide High-Performance Wi-Fi Network

4/24/07 – Westlake Village-based Xirrus, provider of high-performance, long-range wi-fi products, announced today that the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, England’s largest specialist women’s healthcare provider, will deploy Xirrus’ Wi-Fi Arrays throughout the entire hospital.  This is another in a series of recent major customer wins for the company.

Xirrus says that with the deployment, doctors, nurses and other staff members will use wi-fi enabled laptop computer carts to deliver a host of applications designed to improve patient care and efficiency of the hospital staff.

Designed by Wireless LAN Source, Xirrus’ integration partner in the United Kingdom, the Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust network will provide 54mbps data rate connections throughout the facility using only 26 Wi-Fi Arrays to support a new electronic prescription application as well as a new “single” user sign-on scheme to improve staff efficiency, according to Xirrus.  The company says future utilization of the wi-fi network will involve tablet PCs and voice over wi-fi handsets delivering electronic charting capabilities and better communication capabilities throughout the hospital.

Xirrus was founded by the same team that built Xircom, which was acquired by Intel in 2001.
