Today’s early-stage startup funding and acquisitions news:

Commerce

Postmates, an on-demand delivery service, has raised $5 million in new funding for expansion of its on-the-ground delivery service. TechCrunch, which got the scoop on the funding, reports that the funding, which appears to be a Series A, was led by Founders Fund. The company, which was founded in 2011, previously raised a Seed round of $1.75 million.

Web/Content

Yahoo! has acquired recommendation engine Jybe, which was founded by three former Yahoo! employees. No details on the acquisition cost or other details have been released by the companies. TechCrunch has some further analysis today on Yahoo’s possible motivation for the purchase (and I hope those former employees don’t plan on telecommuting).

Big Data

Data application development startup Concurrent has landed $4 million in Series A funding. The new investment in Concurrent, which focuses in particular on helping devs use Apache Hadoop, was led by True Ventures and Rembrandt Venture Partners. The company was founded in 2008 and previously raised $900K in Seed funding. Here’s the company press release announcing the new funding.
