Caroline McCarthy of Cnet reported today about a group of NYU students working on a new social networking site called Diaspora that is (very) successfully raising funds through donations—$100K in fact in very short period of time. Its appeal seems to be based in large part on a burgeoning Facebook backlash—no doubt driven in large part by the social media giant’s many recent privacy foibles.
