Global Navigation Leader Sygic Unveils New Safety Features For Its GPS Navigation App For Apple CarPlay

Sygic, the leading navigation app with trusted by 200 million users worldwide, today announces major update for its Sygic GPS Navigation app with Apple CarPlay connectivity. The announcement was made by the company at MWC Barcelona 2019  in Barcelona, Spain.

The update gives iPhone iOS 12.x users with Apple CarPlay-compatible vehicles dual displays, both on the vehicle’s infotainment system and on the driver’s iPhone, whereas the previous version only allowed for display through the infotainment system.

The fast growing number of drivers who rely on Apple CarPlay for navigation will now have an enhanced user experience which includes popular Sygic safety features like Head-Up Display (HUD), which projects routing instructions onto the windshield and Dashcam that makes use of the iPhone camera as a tool for cautious driving.

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,

10% of fatal crashes and 15% of injury crashes in 2015 were affected by distracted driving. Sygic GPS Navigation’s Head-Up Display (HUD) projects map graphics and directions from driver’s iPhone onto the car windshield so they don’t have to look down at the phone when driving. CarPlay is currently featured in more than 400 car models.

Safety-conscious drivers are fueling a growing market for dashboard-mounted cameras, which the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), predicted would increase in size by 20% in 2018 from the previous year. Onboard cameras can cost as much as $400 USD. Sygic’s Dashcam feature allows users to stay safe and avoid extra costs by leveraging the mounted iPhone camera to record the road ahead.

Other notable features include Points of Interests (POI) on route, dataset of GPS coordinates for interesting and important locations, including resting places and gas stations that appear in the map display. Lane Guidance helps drivers make their way through complicated traffic situations by guiding them into the correct lane.

“We take our continuous innovation philosophy seriously,” said Sygic CEO Martin Strigac. “After a product is released, we listen to our community and do our best to bring high-quality updates with more features, to ensure the convenience and safety for our drivers.”

Sygic is one of the only navigation companies that supports all available car connectivity standards, and the company is ready to work with the SDKs of other large car connectivity software developers in the future such as Android Auto. This is with the goal of furthering its mission to safely guide every driver in the world.
